19559 Unforgettable Writers of the ‘Cono Sur’
Instructor: Matilde Machiavello, Storyteller and Workshop Leader
The literature of South America is a rich and complex tradition, dating back several centuries. As Magical Realism became a popular genre, the work of writers from the countries of  Argentina (J.L.Borges), Brazil (Clarice Lispector), Chile (Jose Donoso), Colombia (G. Garcia Marquez), Paraguay (A.Roa Bastos) and Uruguay (M. Benedetti & H. Quiroga) gained particular prominence during the second half of the twentieth century. The boom of South American literature in the 1960’s and 1970’s and its modern descendants ensure that this varied body of work continues to flourish. While reading some of these works, we’ll explore local beliefs, tradition and much more in the literature of the Cono Sur.
Tuition: $59
