17 de septiembre: día del profesor /September 17th Teachers´ Day

¿Porqué un 17 de septiembre se celebra el día del profesor en Argentina?

Porque ese día en 1894, en Paraguay, falleció José Manuel de Estrada,

quien fuera, entre otras cosas, profesor. Los invito a leer su biografía

y les cuento, que, si bien, estoy lejos de compartir las ideas que él 

defendió, celebro el haber elegido esta profesión y poder convivir

con los colegas que pensamos diferente en forma pacífica y civilizada.

Con respecto a la tarea que cumplimos los docentes a diario, en lo 

personal, me siento muy privilegiada de tener la posibilidad de conocer

y aprender de mis alumnos constantemente. Agradezco que ellos me 

permitan seguir creciendo y que abran sus mentes y sus corazones a todo 

lo que uno propone en el aula - lugar especial, si los hay...espacio físico

silencioso y cómplice, que abre  horizontes y libera la imaginación, 

que acompaña, contiene, escucha, y sigue el crecimiento sin límites ni fronteras. 

Entonces, colegas, a celebrar el lunes con la inmensa alegría que merece

lo antedicho.

Why do we celebrate Teachers´ Day on September 17th?

Because back in 1894, Jose Manuel de Estada died in Paraguay. He was,

Although I´m far from sharing the ideas he defended, I do celebrate having 

chosen this profession as well as being able to share my activities peacefully 

with those colleagues with whom I disagree, ideologically.

As far as the tasks we teachers perform daily, I myself feel really privileged

of having the chance to meet new students and learn from  them constantly. 

I am grateful to them since they allow me to keep growing; they open their minds 

and hearts to everything we suggest in the classroom. 

The classroom -  the place where horizons open and imagination flies, the place

that silently accompanies the process, contains, hears and listens as well and 

follows the unlimited growth of each and all who share it.

So, then, my dear colleagues, let´s celebrate the immense happiness of all the

ideas expressed above next Monday 17th !!!
