My friend Viv´s little girl, Shophie, was just two years old, not yet conversant with language, but very bright and rapidly beginnning to find out the ´rules´ of everyday living. Like all proud new mothers, Viv was encouraging her daughter to entertain a group of friends.
´Who´s the boss in this hourse then?´ she asked Sophie.
´Me!´shrieked Sophie, pointing to her chest, naturally to the delight of the assembled audience, who applauded and laughed.
Now, although Sophie could not fully understand the significance or the humour of what had just happened, she was sufficiently ´switched on´ to register the reaction of her audience.
One can imagine the thought processes working.
´Hmmm,´ sht thinks to herself, ´now when I do that, all my mother´s friends laugh and smile and pat me on the head. I wonder what would happen if I did it again?´
And so the learning process beings...
Sofía aprende una lección
La pequeña Sofi, hija de mi amiga Vivi, tenía sólo dos años de edad, y si bien aún no estaba muy familiarizada con el uso del idioma, sí había comenzado brillante y rápidamente a descubrir las ´reglas´ del diario vivir. Como toda madre primeriza y orgullosa de su criatura, Vivi alentaba a su niña a entretener a un grupo de amigos con sus ocurrencias.
´Quién manda entonces en casa?´ le preguntó Vivi
´Yo!´contestó Sofi con su vocecita chillona, señalando su pecho, para el deleite de la audiencia, quienes aplaudieron y rieron.
A pesar de que Sofi no comprendía el significado y el humor de lo ocurrido, estaba suficientemente ´alerta´ como para registrar la reacción de su audiencia.
Uno puede imaginar el funcionamiento del proceso de su pensamiento.
´Mmm´, se dijo a sí misma, ´entonces, cuando yo hago esto que hice, todos los amigos de mamá rieron y me aprobaron con una palmadita en la cabeza. Me pregunto qué pasaría si lo volviera a hacer?´
Y así comienza el proceso de aprendizaje...
